Wednesday January 20, 2021 - Evening

The Lord has been really dealing with me recently about the power of words.  I could preach a sermon series on what I’ve studied in the past several years regarding the importance of the living Word that stands forever.  One of my favorite passages is John 1, which beautifully describes Jesus as the Word, present at Creation.

In a dream a few years ago, the Lord hammered home the importance of not doubting or compromising His Word, both written in the Scriptures and spoken to me by the Holy Spirit. But our former pastors Ron and Ava Bates also taught me much about the power of our own words.  Pastor Ava even called me out on it a few times.  It’s only in recent months that the importance of this is starting to really sink in.

In our words are life and death, blessing and cursing, releasing and halting, mercy and judgment.  Jesus has given us authority over powers of darkness, and we can speak life into people’s lives and into situations (including my laser printer that frequently does not cooperate… yes, even that!).

Looking back, there are so many times I have thwarted God’s blessing in my life or another’s by my own negative speech, or by yanking the glory away from Him and giving it to something or someone else (sometimes taking it for myself - ay, ay, ay)!

But, as the Lord keeps reminding me over and over during this whole period since the election:

“Be very careful what you choose to align the words of your mouth with.”

He has not permitted me to say anything that sounds like a resignation to what the future appears to hold for our country, based solely upon the media or current events we see unfolding.  He keeps repeating to me:

“It’s not over yet!”

And, I choose to believe Him.  I choose to obey.  I choose to align my words with what He is speaking.  I might sound crazy to many, but I stand on the sure foundation that His Word trumps all.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, over pink background
